Our Principals
The principals of our firm are seasoned laboratory professionals who focus primarily upon working
closely with the senior leadership of our client organizations. Our principals have worked with
some of the country's most respected leaders in the laboratory industry and have served in positions
of senior management of premier healthcare organizations, including large healthcare systems, managed
care organizations, and commercial laboratories. This experience translates into sound, innovative,
objective advice to create impactful and measurable solutions for our clients.
Kevin Hunter
Prior to forming his own consultancy, Kevin Hunter was a director with Navigant Consulting, Inc.,
for seven years, specializing in financial and operational consulting in the healthcare industry.
A veteran laboratory professional, Mr. Hunter has directed numerous laboratory consulting engagements,
including assessments, implementations, integrations, consolidations (core laboratory development),
outreach assistance, interim management, accounting, pricing and compensation analysis, laboratory
information system analysis, and billing and compliance. In over twenty years in the healthcare
industry, he has held a number of senior management positions with commercial and hospital-based
laboratories that entailed total profit and loss responsibility, along with management responsibilities
of all areas of the laboratories. As a consultant, Mr. Hunter has lead the restructuring and turnaround
of laboratories for some of the largest and most prestigious healthcare systems in the country.
Larry Small, MS, MT(ASCP)
Larry Small is an experienced business professional with over 35 years of leadership and technical
experience in the healthcare industry. Mr. Small has a diverse background and extensive experience
in outreach business development, operations and revenue cycle improvement, CPT coding, regulatory
compliance, and billing financial management for independent and hospital-based clinical laboratories,
pathology groups, and medical billing companies.
Prior to starting his first consultancy, L Small Associates, LLC, Mr. Small served as the Director
of Compliance and Billing Financial Consulting Services for Chi Laboratory Systems, Inc. (formerly
Park City Solutions), and as Corporate Director of Compliance for Quest Diagnostics, Inc., where
he was responsible for coordinating the implementation of an effective compliance program throughout
the organization. Additionally, Mr. Small has held corporate leadership positions in Total Quality
Management (TQM), billing accounts receivable, client services, laboratory operations, and field
operations.
Mr. Small is a frequent national conference speaker, including the American Pathology Foundation,
Association of College & University Auditors, Washington G2 Lab Institute, Healthcare Financial
Management Association, and Healthcare Auditor Network. Topics have included clinical laboratory
and anatomic pathology compliance, correct coding and billing and other management related areas.
Mr. Small is certified by the College of American Pathologists as an MT(ASCP), and holds a MS degree
from Iowa State University.
